When a broke, lonely young woman in rural Tasmania stumbles onto a Tasmanian tiger that never went extinct — and grew to the size of a Bengal tiger while nobody was looking — she doesn't get a pet. She gets a chaotic, house-wrecking, fiercely protective best friend, and exactly the protector she never knew she needed.
Suzie, mid-to-late 20s, lives alone in a small, old, lovingly-kept house in rural Tasmania, getting by on not much and fielding constant phone calls from her overbearing mother. A bushwalk meant to clear her head after one such call goes sideways when she comes face to face with Tazy — a thylacine, long believed extinct, now grown to the size of a big cat. Terrified, she falls and knocks herself out — and wakes to find he didn't hurt her. He protected her. What follows is a reluctant, very messy friendship: Tazy follows her home, invades her car, her bath, her beer, and her bed, and generally destroys her house with the enthusiasm of an oversized puppy. But when Suzie's dangerous ex forces his way into her home and turns violent, Tazy proves exactly what kind of friend he is — not through savagery, but by terrifying the man into fleeing half-dressed into the street. Suzie and Tazy end up exactly where the film always knew they would: together.
